There’s no better time than the New Year to start looking for a new home. New year, new start, it makes sense. But if you’ve decided to buy a new home now that the new year is here, you should be prepared for the fact that you’ll be up against lots of other buyers.
Everyone tends to have the same idea when it hits the 1st January, so here are some tips to help you look for, and find, the perfect home in the new year property rush.
Be sure that you want to buy
You’ll have some competition when searching for a new home in January, so you need to be entirely sure about your decision to buy a new home.
The last thing you want is to waste time looking round houses, and racing other buyers to put an offer in, if you’re having doubts about moving.
Get in there quick
If you find your dream home, get in there quick! Once you’ve got all the information you need, and you’ve fallen in love with a home, put an offer in. If you’re not quick about it, you might just find that someone beats you to it.
View as many homes as you can
Even if you find a home that you love in your first day of looking, it’s worth viewing as many as you can.
Firstly, because you never know, you might find a home that’s even better. But mainly because homes are often snapped up quickly in the new year, and the last thing you want is to have your heart set on one, only to find out it’s been sold the next day.
This goes hand in hand with viewing as many homes as you can. Even if you’ve found the one home you can imagine yourself living in, have backups. That way, even if something goes wrong with your first choice, you’ll have other go-to options waiting.
