10 Reasons To Take Your Family On A Ski Holiday

With many European ski resorts open until April, there’s still some time before the end of the ski season. So it’s not too late to make the most of the snow around the world with your family.

If you’ve never been skiing before though, the idea of an adventure packed, winter sports holiday can seem pretty daunting, especially if you’re used to lazy beaches and glorious sunshine. But a ski holiday is going to be one to remember, and one that you’re definitely not going to regret.

But if you need convincing, here are 10 reasons why you should go on a family skiing holiday.

1: It’s a great chance bond with your family

If you’re looking for a holiday that’s going to bring your family closer together, this is it. What better way to bond with your loved ones than learning something new? You can all learn together and cling on to each other as you whizz down the mountain slopes. Plus, think of the laughter when one of you ends up in a waist deep pile of snow (it’s bound to happen).

2: There’s never a dull moment on a skiing holiday

With most other holidays, it often reaches a point where you’re at a loss for what to do. Maybe you get bored of the all-inclusive ice cream, or you fancy something slightly more exciting than sunbathing. When you go skiing though, there’s always something to do.

During the day, the hours will fly by as you master skiing down the slopes. And afterwards, you can enjoy the après ski – this is where everyone socializes and has a few drinks. The après ski is so much fun that people book skiing holidays just to enjoy this part of it.

And if at any point you find yourself without anything to do, the scenery is going to be stunning enough that you could just sit and take it in for hours.

3: Skiing is much more fun when you’re with family

If you’re a first-time skier, it’s a much better idea to go with family, rather than friends. Don’t get me wrong, a skiing trip with your closest friends will be a good laugh, but it’s likely to be a lot less stressful with your family.

You can relax and take the slopes at your own pace, without feeling pressured into taking on any slopes you’re not yet ready for. Plus, if you’ve got little ones, you’ve got a good excuse to take it slowly whilst they learn the ropes.

4: You can learn something new together

Learning something new always leads to a great sense of achievement. If you learn how to ski with your family, you can all celebrate together. Who knows, skiing might even be an activity that you revisit many times, together as a family.

5: You can keep fit whilst holidaying!

A lot of holidays involve over eating and endless relaxing, but when you go skiing, you’ll be exercising all day. So you’ll be keeping fit whilst on holiday!

That’s not to say though that there won’t be plenty of food available. You’ll have meals that are more like feasts, but you won’t feel guilty in the slightest for indulging, because you’ll have earnt every calorie.

6: Skiing means incredible mountain views

Skiing brings you right into the mountains, so for your entire holiday, you’ll be surrounded by incredible views. I’m not sure there’s any view more impressive than the view from a ski slope.

7: Ski holidays aren’t just about the skiing

If you’re not too keen on the idea of actually skiing, you’ll be pleased to hear that there’s so much more to enjoy than just the skiing. The atmosphere in ski towns and ski resorts is fun, friendly and like something out of a movie.

You’ll meet plenty of new people at the après ski events, and you can enjoy delicious food and drink in the local cafes.

8: Snow is always good fun

If you’ve got little ones, it’s worth booking a ski holiday even if just for the snow. Kids and adults alike love snow. There’s endless fun to be had in the snow, from snowman making, to snowball fights, to snow angels.

9: Skiing is genuinely exciting!

Skiing holidays are packed with excitement and adrenaline, so if you want a holiday that’s going to keep you on your toes, it’s perfect. Your heart will be constantly racing, and once you’ve mastered one slope, you’ll be desperate to progress to the next one.

10: You’ll have great fun just putting on your ski gear

If you’ve never been skiing before, you’re in for a treat when it comes to choosing your ski gear. The huge duvet-looking trousers and 80s style all-in-ones will have you and your family in stitches.
