Mother’s Day is just a couple of weeks away now, and it’s the perfect day to show your Mum just how much she means to you. It’s your chance to say thank you for everything she’s done for you over the years, so you want to make the day one to remember.
If you don’t yet have anything planned, don’t panic! Here are some of the top places in Kent to take your Mum on Sunday 11th March.
Call The Midwife Tour – Chatham Historic Dockyard
If your Mum’s a fan of BBC’s Call The Midwife, this is the perfect day out. And if it’s a show that you both enjoy, even better!
Much of the series has actually been filmed at Chatham Historic Dockyard, so this Mother’s Day you can explore the setting of ‘Poplar’.
Chatham Historic Dockyard is offering tours of the area from the 10th March. The tour will be led by a ‘midwife’, pointing out all of the locations that feature in the series. As well as the set, you’ll also get to see props and costumes that were used in the series.
Mother’s Day Crafts Event – Emmetts Garden, Sevenoaks
Emmetts Garden is a beautiful location, and this Mother’s Day, you and your Mum can enjoy a scenic walk, followed by some crafts.
It’s a great chance to bond, and at the end you’ll both come away with something that you’ve made. A handmade souvenir can be a lot more sentimental than chocolates or a card (although these are always welcome too), and the process of getting artsy could prove to be great fun!
The event is included with the cost of admission, and runs from 10am to 6pm, so you can really make a day of it!
Mother’s Day at Hever Castle
Hever Castle is a great day out, regardless of what day it is, but this Mother’s Day there’s plenty on all weekend for the perfect Mum’s day out.
You can enjoy a family day out exploring the castle, and there are craft workshops for the little ones, where they can make a heart shaped key ring to give to Mum.
You could also have a Mother’s Day lunch or afternoon tea! The afternoon tea is set to be quite an impressive one, with finger sandwiches and cakes galore, there’s even going to be a mini cheesecake tower. And with both lunch and afternoon tea, all Mum’s get a complimentary glass of Prosecco or a non-alcoholic cocktail.
Mother’s Day at Igtham Mote
There’s plenty to explore at Igtham Mote, and there are a few Mother’s Day events on as well.
Little ones can pop into the Squire’s room to make Mum a last minute present, and Mum’s can even enjoy a hand massage in the shop!
Again, there’s also the option to have lunch or afternoon tea here, if you want to make the day that bit more special.
Weekend For Mum – Penshurst Place
Explore the house and gardens of Penshurst Place this Mother’s Day, and if you fancy it, partake in their arts and crafts sessions! On Saturday 10th March, children can make Mother’s Day crafts, and on Sunday, there’ll be a craft session for adults, making pot pourri and lavender bags.
Mum’s Drive A Train – Hythe and Dymchurch Railway
This one is a slightly more unusual Mother’s Day event, but it’s one that could be good fun, and a great experience!
Take your Mum to Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, and she’ll be able to drive a train from New Romney Station to the outer station limits.
Don’t worry, she’ll be supported by an experienced driver, so there’s no chance of your Mum steaming away with a runaway train! And she’ll get a certificate upon completion.
After your Mum’s drive, you could also opt for afternoon tea in Hythe’s vintage style tea room, but remember to prebook!
Mother’s Day Family Fun – Groombridge Place
Groombridge Place is truly enchanting, and normally incredibly peaceful, but this Mother’s Day weekend, it’s being transformed into a family fun ground!
From 10am to 4pm, there’ll be face painting, crafts, bouncy castles, live music and plenty more for the whole family to enjoy.
Celebrate Mother’s Day by the Water – Bewl Water
Bewl Water is one of Kent’s most beautiful locations. And a peaceful walk around the reservoir could be the perfect way to celebrate Mother’s Day. You can take in the beauty of the natural surroundings, look out for wildlife, and enjoy taking a break from the chaos of everyday life.
There’s more on than just walking at Bewl Water this Mother’s Day though, as you can also enjoy a special Mother’s Day lunch at the Boat House Bistro. Indulge in a delicious 3 course meal, whilst overlooking the reservoir.
You can dine between 12:30 and 3:30pm, and you can expect some impressive dishes on their special Mother’s Day menu.
