If you’re ‘Kentish’, or a person from Kent, you’ll be pleased to know that all in all, us Kentish folk are a talented bunch of people. There are so many people who were born and raised in Kent that are a true inspiration to many now.
To prove Kent’s potential, here’s a list of some of the talented people that were born in Kent, whose talents have taken them all the way to stardom.
Orlando Bloom
Orlando Bloom has starred in many of our favourite films, from Pirates of the Caribbean to Lord of the Rings. He’s also been dubbed ‘the most beautiful man on Earth’ by many.
And this talented and beloved actor started out here in Kent! He was born in Kent’s only city, Canterbury, and attended St Peter’s Methodist Primary School, King’s School and St Edmund’s School.
Kelly Brook
Kelly Brook is a poplar actress, model and TV presenter in both the UK and the US. She’s loved for her good looks, charming personality and for her roles in films such as Piranha 3D and Keith Lemon: The Movie. She was even named as FHM’s Sexiest Woman in the World in 2005. She was born in Rochester, and attended the Thomas Aveling School.
Sam Palladio
Sam Palladio is an actor and musician. He recently found his fame when he starred in the US TV series, Nashville, as Gunnar Scott. Viewers fell in love with his character and his incredible voice, and now he both acts and tours as a musician.
People are often surprised to find out that Sam Palladio is actually British after watching him act as an American character and even sing in an American accent. But he was actually born in Pembury in Kent. Whilst he moved to Cornwall for the majority of his upbringing, he came back to Kent to study Actor Musicianship at Rose Bruford College in Sidcup.
Nigel Farage
Whether or not this character is one that’s liked at all, I’ll leave you to decide, but he is famous and somewhat talented nonetheless, though some of us might like to deny it.
Famous for being the leader and one of the founders of the UKIP party, Farage is a controversial political character. And whilst he can often seem as though he’s from a different planet, he was actually born here in Kent, in Downe.
Kate Bush
Kate Bush is another singer-songwriter from and was the first female artist to make it to number one with a self-written song. She’s known for her experimental and often eccentric music, and her sense of humour, which was fairly unique.
She was born in Bexleyheath, which was part of the historical county of Kent, but is now part of the London Borough of Bexley.
Mick Jagger
Mick Jagger, or Sir Michael Philip Jagger as he’s more formally known, is a beloved singer-songwriter, musician, composer and member of the Rolling Stones. He’s been a huge influence and inspiration to the world of rock music.
He’s loved as both a member of the Rolling Stones and as a solo artist, in fact he’s so loved that he was knighted for his dedication to music.
This hugely famous figure was born and raised in Dartford, where he attended Wentworth Primary School and then Dartford Grammar School (which is why the school now has a Mick Jagger Centre). Wentworth Primary School is where he met Keith Richards for the first time.
Keith Richards
Keith Richards is also a singer-songwriter and member of The Rolling Stones. He’s known and loved by aspiring rock Gods and guitarists all over the world, as one of the world’s greatest guitarists. Several of the songs he wrote with Mick Jagger are also considered some of the greatest songs of all time.
Like Mick Jagger, he too was born in Dartford, and attended Wentworth Primary School and was even Jagger’s neighbour for a while. He then attended Dartford Technical High School For Boys, and after getting expelled for truancy, transferred to Sidcup Art College.
So two of the most influential figures in rock music were born and raised in Kent!
So if you’re from Kent, there are plenty of people’s footsteps to follow. There are so many people who started out in exactly the same place as us Kentish people, and made it all the way to the top. If that’s not proof of potential, I don’t know what is!
